6-28-26 DO NOT BE WISE IN YOUR OWN ESTIMATION

Rom 12:9-13 Let love be without hypocrisy. Abhor what is evil; cling to what is good. 10 Be devoted to one another in brotherly love; give preference to one another in honor; 11 not lagging behind in diligence, fervent in spirit, serving the Lord; 12 rejoicing in hope, persevering in tribulation, devoted to prayer, 13 contributing to the needs of the saints, practicing hospitality.

14 Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse. 15 Rejoice with those who rejoice, and weep with those who weep. 16 Be of the same mind toward one another; do not be haughty in mind, but associate with the lowly.Do not be wise in your own estimation

The phrase "do not be wise in your own estimation" comes from the Bible and warns against relying on your own intellect and self-sufficiency rather than seeking divine guidance. It appears in two primary passages that encourage humility and trust in God.

this passage warns that thinking you have everything figured out leads to spiritual pride and folly.

Prov 3:5-10 Trust in the Lord with all your heart And do not lean on your own understanding.

6 In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He will make your paths straight.

7 Do not be wise in your own eyes; Fear the Lord and turn away from evil.

8 It will be healing to your body

And refreshment to your bones.

9 Honor the Lord from your wealth

And from the first of all your produce;

10 So your barns will be filled with plenty

And your vats will overflow with new wine.

6-21-26//A FATHER TO THE FATHERLESS

Sermon Notes

Ps 68:1-6 Let God arise, let His enemies be scattered,

And let those who hate Him flee before Him.

2 As smoke is driven away, so drive them away; As wax melts before the fire,

So let the wicked perish before God.

3 But let the righteous be glad; let them exult before God; Yes, let them rejoice with gladness.

4 Sing to God, sing praises to His name;

Lift up a song for Him who rides through the deserts,

Whose name is the Lord, and exult before Him.

5 A father of the fatherless and a judge for the widows,

Is God in His holy habitation.

6 God makes a home for the lonely;

He leads out the prisoners into prosperity,

Only the rebellious dwell in a parched land.

FATHERS ARE LOVING

John 3:16-17 "For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life.  17 "For God did not send the Son into the world to judge the world, but that the world might be saved through Him.

 Ps 103:13 Just as a father has compassion on his children, So the Lord has compassion on those who fear Him.

FATHERS ARE ENCOURAGERS

 1 Thess 2:9-12 For you recall, brethren, our labor and hardship, how working night and day so as not to be a burden to any of you, we proclaimed to you the gospel of God. 10 You are witnesses, and so is God, how devoutly and uprightly and blamelessly we behaved toward you believers; 11 just as you know how we were exhorting and encouraging and imploring each one of you as a father would his own children, 12 so that you would walk in a manner worthy of the God who calls you into His own kingdom and glory.

Gal 6:9 Let us not lose heart in doing good, for in due time we will reap if we do not grow weary.

Rom 8:28 And we know that God causes all things to work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose

6-14-26//ASSOCIATE WITH THE LOWLY

Rom 12:9-13 Let love be without hypocrisy. Abhor what is evil; cling to what is good. 10 Be devoted to one another in brotherly love; give preference to one another in honor; 11 not lagging behind in diligence, fervent in spirit, serving the Lord; 12 rejoicing in hope, persevering in tribulation, devoted to prayer, 13 contributing to the needs of the saints, practicing hospitality.

14 Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse. 15 Rejoice with those who rejoice, and weep with those who weep. 16 Be of the same mind toward one another;do not be haughty in mind, but associate with the lowly.

haughty (often phrased as having "haughty eyes" or a "haughty spirit") means arrogant, conceited, and disdainful. It describes a mindset where a person exalts themselves, looks down on others as inferior, and acts as the center of their own universe, thereby elevating themselves above God.

To associate with the lowly means to do what you can to serve the poor, oppressed, homeless, widows and orphans.

Treat everyone as equals. Do not be a social climber or act exclusively; deliberately spend time with, serve, and value those the world might consider insignificant or marginalized.

 Jesus washing the disciples' feet (recorded in John 13) is a profound act of humility. During the Last Supper, Jesus wrapped a towel around His waist, took a basin of water, and washed His followers' feet. This task was culturally reserved for the lowest servant, yet He, as Lord, performed it to set an ultimate example of selfless love, servanthood, and spiritual cleansing.

6-7-21//DO NOT BE HAUGHTY IN MIND, BUT ASSOCIATE WITH THE LOWLY

Rom 12:9-13 Let love be without hypocrisy. Abhor what is evil; cling to what is good. 10 Be devoted to one another in brotherly love; give preference to one another in honor; 11 not lagging behind in diligence, fervent in spirit, serving the Lord; 12 rejoicing in hope, persevering in tribulation, devoted to prayer, 13 contributing to the needs of the saints, practicing hospitality.

haughty (often phrased as having "haughty eyes" or a "haughty spirit") means arrogant, conceited, and disdainful. It describes a mindset where a person exalts themselves, looks down on others as inferior, and acts as the center of their own universe, thereby elevating themselves above God.

James 4:6,7 But He gives a greater grace. Therefore it says, "GOD IS OPPOSED TO THE PROUD, BUT GIVES GRACE TO THE HUMBLE." 7 Submit therefore to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you.

Prov 16:18 Pride goes before destruction, And a haughty spirit before stumbling.

1 Peter 5:5-7 You younger men, likewise, be subject to your elders; and all of you, clothe yourselves with humility toward one another, for GOD IS OPPOSED TO THE PROUD, BUT GIVES GRACE TO THE HUMBLE.

6 Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you at the proper time, 7 casting all your anxiety on Him, because He cares for you.

Rom 12:3 For through the grace given to me I say to everyone among you not to think more highly of himself than he ought to think; but to think so as to have sound judgment, as God has allotted to each a measure of faith.

Prayer for Help in Trouble.

13 How long, O Lord? Will You forget me forever?
How long will You hide Your face from me?
How long shall I take counsel in my soul,
Having sorrow in my heart all the day?
How long will my enemy be exalted over me?

Consider and answer me, O Lord my God;
Enlighten my eyes, or I will sleep the sleep of death,
And my enemy will say, “I have overcome him,”
And my adversaries will rejoice when I am shaken.

But I have trusted in Your lovingkindness;
My heart shall rejoice in Your salvation.
I will sing to the Lord,
Because He has dealt bountifully with me.
